Everything you need to know to survive the Grid.

1. Overview & Objective

Goop Troops is a real-time multiplayer territorial strategy game. You command a colored "goop" empire expanding across a shared grid. Your primary objective: Eliminate all other players and be the last empire standing.

At the start of the game, you will randomly spawn next to a Gold Deposit. The map is covered in a Fog of War, and you can only see within a 5-tile radius of your owned territory.

2. Core Controls

Control your empire using simple interactions with the grid.

  • Left Click on empty grass: Buy a Base Tile (Costs 50 Gold)
  • Click + Drag: Paint Tiles for rapid expansion
  • Right Click on your tile: Upgrade Tile (Costs 500 Gold)
  • Shift + Click on your tile: Sell a Tile (Refunds based on tile health)
  • W A S D: Move your Avatar across the map
  • Scroll Wheel: Zoom Camera in and out
  • Hover your mouse over any tile: View its Health, Output Damage, and Owner in the bottom left Info Panel.

3. The Economy

Gold is the lifeblood of your Goop empire. You start with exactly 1,000 Gold. Careful economic management is essential to victory.

Gold Deposits

To generate income, you must interact with the scattered yellow Gold Deposit squares. Being adjacent to a deposit yields returns every single tick (1 second):

  • Base Tile next to gold: +4 Income / tick
  • Upgraded Tile next to gold: +6 Income / tick

Upkeep & Scaling

A large empire is an expensive empire. Every single tile you own costs 1 Gold per tick to keep alive. Aggressive overexpansion without capturing enough Gold Deposits will quickly bankrupt your economy.

Selling

If you need quick cash or want to re-position, selling a tile refunds a portion of its value. The refund is calculated based on its remaining health.

4. Combat & Expansion

Combat occurs automatically! If you build adjacent to an enemy tile, they will damage each other at the end of every tick.

Tile Stats

  • Base Tile: 100 Max Health | 15 Damage / tick
  • Upgraded Tile: 200 Max Health | 25 Damage / tick

Combat Rules

  • Damage: Tiles deal their damage to all adjacent enemy tiles.
  • Seniority Advantage: Older tiles deal their damage first. An older/established tile can destroy a newly placed enemy tile before it has a chance to return fire.
  • Healing: If a tile takes damage but survives, adjacent friendly tiles will naturally heal it by +1 Health / tick.

Supply Lines

You cannot effectively fight if your lines are cut. If an enemy breaks your connections and severs tiles from your main territory, those orphaned tiles suffer a Supply Decay of 5 Damage / tick until they are destroyed or reconnected.

5. Lobby & Interface

Here are some interface tips so you can read the HUD effectively:

  • Scoreboard: The top-right panel shows up to 8 players, listing their total Tiles, Income, Gold, and Name. A green background behind a player's name means they are Ready to play!
  • Tile Inspector: The bottom-left panel displays precise stats for the tile currently under your cursor.
  • Winning: When only one player has tiles remaining, the game ends and shows the winner.
